Introduction

This chapter contextualises the broader interplay between gender and climate change policy, highlighting the importance of examining how gender structures—and particularly implicit gender structures—determine climate policy discourses in different regions. The relevance of analysing the climate discourses of India and the European Union to understand the role of implicit gendered power structures in shaping their respective climate policies will be outlined, as will the guiding research questions. Since the climate discourses will be deconstructed applying ecofeminist hegemony analysis as a theoretical framework, ecofeminist hegemony analysis itself will also be delineated. Anja Zürn will also provide a brief overview of the current state of research in the field of ecofeminist and poststructuralist climate change policy- and discourse analysis not only regarding India and the EU.
