Data-Driven Circular Business Models for a Greener Future
摘要
The transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy requires businesses to adopt circular models that are increasingly enabled by digitalization and data. This chapter examines how data and digital technologies enable the transition from linear to circular business models, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Drawing on literature, case studies, and nine European SME interviews, it identifies key challenges in adopting data-driven circular strategies, including lack of resources, data quality issues, privacy concerns, and tensions between profit and sustainability. It highlights opportunities arising from Industry 4.0, AI, IoT, and digital product passports to enhance circular practices. Through cases such as Bin-E, Miniwiz, Stuffstr, and the Stella McCartney Foundation, the chapter illustrates pathways toward a greener, data-empowered future.
