This paper takes a media system approachto structure its considerations on the role of free media in times of political disturbance and security threats. Media systems theory makes it possible to identify the media market as a whole, to make it stand out from the environment, and to explore its interconnected individual elements in a local context.Such a line of academic inquiry situates the media sphere in a broader framework, and takes into account its relationships with the political, economic, social, and cultural systems.
