Lumber Gothic—Twin Peaks’ Energy Aesthetics
摘要
The article tests an energy hermeneutics in a cross-seasonal analysis of Twin Peaks that aligns with the interdisciplinary project of the Energy Humanities. The illustration of the obvious to speculative serial poetic discourse on raw materials shows that the first two seasons of Twin Peaks expose their own imaginative and ›materialintensive‹ production through the hyperbolic resource ›wood‹ and the subgenre of Rural Gothic, which focuses on the topos of destructive productivity. Finally, the electricity iconography of the third season negotiates its own serial finitude with the ›finite‹ energy infrastructure of petrochemistry.
