The introductory article recapitulates the varied and unique broadcast history of the three previous seasons of Twin Peaks, starting in the early 1990s up to the reboot in 2017. In doing so, references to other contemporary series are considered as well as the extensive changes in the serial landscape that have both influenced Twin Peaks on the one hand and were (co-)initiated by Twin Peaks on the other. Subsequently, the contributions of the present volume are introduced, all of which deal with Twin Peaks as a serial mystery under various thematic and methodological focuses, which seems to emphatically call for a decoding of signs and thus for the search for (possible) signifieds behind the signifiers, but at the same time constantly subverts them.
