Using the example of the extremely successful book and film series about the orphaned wizard student Harry Potter, Jürgens shows, in discussion with Benjamin and Lacan, how in Rowling’s debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and in its film adaptation of the same name, the existence of the possibility of an emancipating choice of the maturing individual is presented and at the same time promised in several layers in the face of a fascinating medium, the magic mirror Nerhegeb, which is even threatening and overwhelming through the play with one’s own most powerful desires.
