At the first glance, aging has a negative connotation in western societies. The prevailing focus lies mainly on the negative aspects of aging. Often, older people are perceived as depressed, lonely and unhappy. Such stereotypes reinforce the assumption that older individuals are inactive and not involved in the community (ILC, 2006).
