At the end of 2023, employees of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich conducted a detailed eyewitness interview with Ernst O. Krakenberger (born 1940), who survived the Holocaust as a child in hiding in the Netherlands. From the outset, the aim of the project was to later process the interview data and enable future users to engage in AI-supported conversations with the testimony. This article looks at the steps involved in planning and conducting the interview from different perspectives: From that of the scientists, that of the film crew, that of the contemporary witness and that of potential future users of the material. The article illustrates how Krakenberger’s testimony—also due to the personal resilience of the contemporary witness—is remarkably adaptable to different (didactic) reception contexts of the future.
