In addition to type approval, environmental law, as far as it concerns vehicle emissions or internal combustion engines, is the focus of this chapter. It then considers the rights of the consumer as the owner of a manipulated vehicle. Sect. 5.6 mentions criminal aspects. The planned TTIP agreement, which could have potentially altered the course of the emissions scandal, is briefly mentioned. Since the emissions scandal was partly caused by European and German legislators, possibilities for improvement are pointed out.
