Phase-Locked Loops and Synthesis Generators

The connection of a radio frequency signal to a quartz oscillator with radio frequency stability and low noise brought a huge leap in innovation for radio systems in the 1970s. The associated circuit is known as a phase-locked loop or phase-locked loop. This chapter provides an introduction to the basics of PLL technology and presents the current state of circuit technology for the high-frequency range.
