Electronically controlled or phased array antennas are increasingly being used in radar technology. With these, the antenna pattern is not swiveled mechanically, but by means of a phase control of a group of individual radio emitters. The advantage of such antennas is that the antenna beam can be swiveled much faster compared to a mechanically swiveling antenna. This chapter also introduces the frequently used patch antennas. It also explains how a chaotic design can reduce sidelobes immensely and briefly describes the basic antenna measurement technology
