Digital Twins in Logistics: Requirements, Application and Potentials
摘要
This chapter examines digital twins in logistics and supply chain management (LSCM). First, the definition of the term “digital supply chain twin” is explained. Subsequently, essential technical requirements necessary for the successful implementation of a digital twin are described—these were examined based on a use case of an automotive supplier. Furthermore, five key application areas for digital twins in LSCM were outlined with the assistance of a structured literature review and conceptual study. The application areas are categorized at the network level and at the site level. For each level, specific use cases were subsequently described and their individual potentials were thoroughly elaborated. Finally, the current limitations of digital twins in logistics are highlighted and the need for further research is emphasized.
