Theoretical Framework and State of the Art

In this section, I present the theoretical framework that forms the foundation of this thesis and provide an overview of the current state of research to contextualize my work and identify research desiderates. In the first section, I briefly delineate basic considerations of teaching and learning, and offer an expanded impact model of teacher education and competence, within which I later situate the three central publications of this thesis. Subsequently, I discuss teachers’ professional competence and expertise as the main perspectives on teachers and the research on teachers utilized in this thesis.
