Russian Universities and the Labor Market: A Constant Institutional Gap

  • Sergey Barkov

摘要

The Russian education system was reformed at the beginning of the market reforms in the 1990s. This process continues to this day, with certain fluctuations and changes in preferences, although there are some indications of a systemic crisis in the education system. Young people, in particular, have developed the idea that neither education itself nor its quality influences success in life. This does not appear to be without danger, given the international competition with East Asian and Western countries. Against this background, this article discusses the relationship between university education and the needs of the Russian labor market in a historical context.
