Standardisation in India and China from a Corporate Perspective

In this interview, the author of a German global player reports on his experiences in international standardisation, with a focus on India and China. He reflects on country-specific peculiarities, the work in national standardisation committees as well as the cooperation in international committees. Both are of equal importance, but the credo is “international standardisation before national standardisation.” ISO and IEC have well-established rules. However, with the increasing participation of China and India, there is a need for reform. The issue of speed is particularly important. Digitalisation of the standardisation process and of standards is one possible approach; at the same time, the development of the machine-interpretable standard and the increased use of virtual meetings can help. It is important to quickly integrate the delegates of both countries into the existing standardisation system and to coordinate their wishes. This should be a collaborative learning process.
