Standards are an underestimated part of modernisation and innovation. For a long time, they were also seen as a purely technical matter. With digitalization, their economic and political dimensions are now becoming apparent. This book examines approaches to standardisation in India and China. Authors from academia and practice analyse the respective contexts and highlight specific issues by way of example. The chapter introduces the topic of the book. It explains the background, objectives and limitations of the book, its structure and the composition of the authors. The chapters are introduced by means of their respective abstracts.
