Introduction

In 2020, only 21 percent of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa used safely-managed sanitation services (The World Bank n. d. n), 30 percent used safely managed drinking water services (The World Bank n. d. m), and 48 percent had access to electricity (The World Bank n. d. b). In contrast, 46 percent of the population in Sub-Sahara Africa subscribed to mobile services (GSMA 2021a:3) and 30 percent used the internet (The World Bank n. d. i). These data suggest that more people in the region had access to mobile services and the Internet than to some basic services for living.
