While large hyperscalers or large IT corporates have significant advantages in terms of access to data and resources, it shall be explored what activities start-ups and individual entrepreneurs can engage in and what ecosystem and support they need, to excel over them. For instance, by fully focusing on a specific (niche) application, by using their agility to adopt aspects like ethics from the start or by jumping on new AI base-technologies and understanding early how to use them to address the problems of their customers. The author shares his experience from companies of Technopark Zurich and beyond in terms of company success, challenges, support received and what could help them.
