Methodological Reflections

  • Konstantin Aal

摘要

This chapter reflects on the methodological and ethical challenges of conducting intensive field research in conflict settings, drawing on the author’s experience of studying activists in the West Bank. The immersive ‘on the ground’ approach provided invaluable insights, but also difficulties in gaining access, maintaining objectivity, managing emotional distress and navigating complex dilemmas. Here I share my struggles with the psychological impact of witnessing trauma and balancing empathy with neutrality.
