Introduction and Motivation

This dissertation examines the role of social media and ICTs in conflicts in four MENA countries: Tunisia, Syria, Palestine and Iran. Through ethnographic fieldwork, it explores how these tools are used for activism, communication and resistance in each region. The analysis contrasts the effectiveness of social media in mobilising movements, highlighting both its potential and its limitations. It also reflects on the emotional and methodological challenges faced during the research process.
