Globalization and Migration in Interplay
摘要
Historically, surges in globalization have favored the exchange of goods and cultural achievements, and they have helped to ignite people’s curiosity for exploring the unknown. Thus, there is a close interrelationship between globalization and migrations, which works in both directions. Recent examples include the colonial expansion in the late 19th and early 20th century, as well as the war-related migrations throughout the 20th century. This chapter points out significant waves of globalization, provides striking examples of migration flows, and discusses the problems that emigrants cause or experience in their countries of origin and destination.
