Long-Term Crisis Climate Change

  • Heinz Handler

摘要

In contrast to many previous crises, climate change is a global endogenous phenomenon that is not being imposed on us from the outside; rather, we are causing it ourselves every day. It is not an event that can be ended with a few political interventions or a minor adjustment of our behaviors. Scientifically substantiated findings rather point to the long-term impending disaster that will only have to be endured by future generations. The comprehensive problems of climate change can only be rudimentarily considered here, insofar as they appear necessary for the overall picture of the multiple crises facing Europe. After a brief overview of the dramatic increase in global greenhouse gas emissions, the following pages discuss the global and EU-specific solutions. Driven by the Ukraine war, the EU is facing a reform of the internal energy market that curbs dependence on Russian oil and gas in the short term and takes into account the Paris climate goals in the long term.
