Discussion

The discussion begins with a summary of the results from the case study research and document analysis for this dissertation. The state of decarbonization of the chemical industry is recalled and innovation types and findings on chemical companies’ responses to climate action, company-specific and innovation-specific predictors for adoption of mitigation technologies are discussed. In the second and third part of the chapter, results from this research are linked with multi-level perspective of socio-technical transition theory and technology innovation systems approach. Implications for practitioners and an outlook for further research close the chapter.
