Since the establishment of the first Export credit agency (ECA) in the early 1900s, several variants of ECAs have emerged, each designed to meet host countries' particular needs in accordance with their prevailing financial and economic conditions. This section explores (1) the structural and functional differences between ECAs in advanced (capital-rich) economies and developing (capital-scarce) countries, (2) the extent to which the nomenclature of ECAs differs across countries, and (3) whether ECAs that are classified as export-import (Exim) banks are different from other ECAs. The analysis is based on a comprehensive list of 96 national ECAs identified in US Exim Bank (2017) plus five regional/multilateral ECAs (Annex 1).

摘要
