As part of future urban mobility, automated taxis with different operating models are going to cover a wide range of applications. The conventional, individual taxi operation will be supplemented in the future by shared or pooled trips. The elimination of costs for a person driving the vehicle and the availability of an automated trip booking and management system mean that customers can expect lower mobility costs. The technical challenges to be solved, the solution modules already available, and further effects of automated taxis on society are discussed in this chapter.
