The longitudinal control takes over the adaptive cruise control (ACC) as an independent system. It comprises several modules: a module for operation and display, selecting the target vehicle to follow, and subordinate controllers that realize the intended vehicle acceleration via the drive and brake. In addition to the function, the requirements for the individual modules are described and the safety concept is outlined.
