This chapter describes the objectives, the features, the structure with components and the composition of digital maps in the Navigation Data Standard Format (NDS). Furthermore, its partitioning, generalization of map data and tools of the NDS e.V. are discussed. Using an example, the learning of map data is illustrated and an outlook on the future of the NDS standard is given.
