Socialization

  • Elfriede Billmann-Mahecha

摘要

Socialization is understood as the process of children, adolescents, and adults growing into a society, intertwined with developmental and learning processes and taking place in a sociocultural setting. After a brief explanation of the phenomenon of socialization and a reference to the necessity of an interdisciplinary perspective, the historical and theoretical foundations of the concept of socialization are discussed. The significance of sociocultural contexts is exemplified by research on early childhood socialization in cultural comparison and on the developmental tasks of adolescents with a migration background. Finally, the difficulty of empirically capturing culture is pointed out and a convergence of comparative cultural and cultural psychological approaches is advocated.
