The Feminist Perspective

This article presents an overview of the interfaces between cultural psychology and feminist research approaches. On the one hand, there are approaches within the tradition of cultural psychology that offer little points of connection due to androcentric distortions or a ‘gender blindness’ (or require a critical extension). On the other hand, it is made clear that cultural psychological scholarship on gender issues has, or can have, a great proximity to social and cultural Gender Studies. We illustrate this by using the concepts of doing gender and intersectionality. Methodologically, cultural psychology and feminist research often go hand in hand by promoting qualitative research, participatory approaches, and the reflection of one’s own position as a researcher. We explain this using our own research example from the field of parenthood.
