Alcetas, the Pisidians, and the Macedonian Rule in Southern Asia Minor

In 319 BCE Alcetas, the brother of Perdiccas, after the defeat of Cretopolis obtained great support from the Pisidians in his fight against Antigonus. According to Diodorus, Alcetas was able to secure the alliance of the local population. However, he was finally betrayed to Antigonus by the older Pisidians, while the younger men, faithful to his memory, would have rebelled, triggering a civil war that would have caused very serious disorders in the region. The article examines historical, archaeological and epigraphic sources concerning civil struggles in the Pisidian cities (Termessus, Sagalassus) in the Early Hellenistic age and outlines a general framework relating to the social and cultural relationship between the local population and the Macedonian conquerors.
