Conclusions, Implications, and Recommendations

In this study, my aim was to contribute to the development of a positively informed normative theory of distributive justice by introducing the no-reranking principle as a distributive justice principle and demonstrating its relationship and trade-offs with other justice principles, particularly the need principle. Therefore, in the theoretical part, I explored the foundations of the no-reranking principle, which had not yet been incorporated into the interdisciplinary list of distributive justice principles, including distributions based on equality, needs, deserts, and status- or power-dependent characteristics (SPC). On this list, I showed that equality is typically considered a baseline principle, from which deviations can occur for relevant reasons, with such deviations typically grounded in other principles of distributive justice.
