Selection of the Execution Concept

This chapter considers what a sensible execution and procurement concept might look like. A decision is usually made during the basic engineering phase of the plant construction project. Often, costs and human resources play a major role in the selection. All execution concepts, from self-execution to the use of engineering partners to the “Lump Sum Turn Key” project via EPC contractors, have advantages and disadvantages, some of which are described. Furthermore, important considerations are made regarding the examination of offers (e.g., sealed bid procedures taking into account the “Total Cost of Ownership”), quality assurance, and schedule monitoring, from which a division of tasks between the various project partners can then also be determined.
