The operation of a train station essentially consists of the construction of routes for train journeys. Routes are sequences of blocks; blocks are track sections, on which only one train may be present at a time; and track sections are, for example, tracks, switches, and double crossover switches and buffer stops. This hierarchy thus provides a nice example of object-based programming. The project consists of simulating a pushbutton control panel for a train station and has a distributed aspect: the simulation of train traffic between several stations.
