Philosophy of Religious Pluralism – An Islamic Perspective

  • Rusmir Šadić

摘要

In the last decades, the presence and significance of religion in the public sphere has been reason for serious research and reflections in many academic fields, which testifies in the favor of the position that religion has become one of the most significant phenomena at the end of the twentieth and the beginning of the twentyfirst century whose unexpected ‘return’ requires scientific analysis. In this regard, it should be said that religion—and Islam in particular—have significant capacities for strengthening plural society, as well as for establishing a philosophy of religious pluralism that could help in this way. Furthermore, the idea of plurality lies at the basis of every religion, especially of Islam, and the fact that there is one Reality and many revelations, one Source and many paths, offers essential presumptions for development of such a philosophy of religious pluralism. This shows that religions contain valuable potential for the future of humanity and the establishment of a singular-plural mode of being. Important interpretative insights for the foundation of such a worldview can be found in the works of many modern Muslim thinkers, and in this article, we deal with the analysis of the opinions of some of the most prominent among them.
