This contribution examines the domestication of smart home-technologies. With the domestication approach, we consider the integration of interconnected, data-driven devices into everyday life and domestic practices. We outline the basic assumptions and concepts of domestication research and identify characteristics of domestication in the smart home. Finally, we conclude with a critical perspective on the societal impact of smart home devices and their domestication.
