Initiatives of Cooperation and Reconciliation—Diverging Positions

Since 2012 Germany and Greece have been quick to launch various new initiatives for cooperation in different fields. This chapter examines relevant initiatives, focusing on those with a direct impact on addressing the darkest chapters of Greece and Germany’s common past. It then discusses initiatives that directly involve reconciliation politics: The German-Greek Assembly (GGA), the Greek-German Action Plan, the German-Greek Fund for the Future (GGFF) and the German Greek Youth Organisation (GGYO). Expert interviews, primary and secondary literature offer a detailed account of the measures and policies as well as diverging views, highlighting the existing division.
