The article discusses Deutschland 83/86/89 (G 2015–2020, RTL/Amazon Prime Video) and here specifically the first season as teen and quality TV, by which current transformations of the German drama series become apparent. In a textual analysis, the affiliation to these meta-genres as well as to more specific ones will be illuminated. The chapter elaborates particularly coming-of-age narratives, by means of which the 1980s miniseries Deutschland 83 reformed the historical event miniseries (“Event-Mehrteiler”) that has been very influential in German television fiction. On the basis of interviews with experts and participant observations at industry workshops, additional production contexts and thus also more general tendencies in the German television series industry are taken into account. Deutschland 83, it becomes apparent, points to a diversification of the television industry, in the course of which more teenager-specific programs become possible.
