State of Research

In order to clarify the relevance of this thesis, in the following I explain the state of the research with regards the questions posed. According to Hennessy, a former president of Stanford University, the traditional lectures held in higher education are dying out and being replaced by models of learning such as the Inverted Classroom (Wiarda, 2016). Therefore, according to Yough et al. (2019) the Flipped Classroom Model has gained considerably greater attention in recent years. Yough et al. (2019) specifically comment on the results of studies which are relevant to answering the research questions as well as Ryan und Deci’s Self-Determination Theory (2017; Sect.  3.2 ), which is fundamental to the research project: “[T]o date, motivational implications from an SDT perspective have yet to be examined in flipped classrooms” (p. 412). My research shows, that the basic research for this doctorate is only beginning. The following reconstruction of the state of research is correspondingly brief.
