It has long been recognised that the development and design of new technology, or indeed any artefact, carries with it political implications. One of the most famous examples is Langdon Winner’s text asking “Do artefacts have politics?” (Winner, 1980). Researchers of various disciplines have then pointed out that design is not simply a matter of designing a technology for a purpose but also a political act of designing an artefact for people.
