When Women Know the Truth: The Effect of Information About Photoshop on Ad Attitude
摘要
In France and Norway, marketers must include a disclaimer in advertisements when they show models who are idealized by imaging software e.g., photoshop. In recent Dove and Olay campaigns, authentic models are depicted combined with the disclaimer that no imaging software has been applied. Findings of prior research on the effects of disclaimers about the use and nonuse of photoshopping of ad models on ad attitudes are inconsistent. We therefore conducted an experiment that examined such effects. When marketers aim to maximize the attitude toward the ad by depicting ad models, we recommend showing artificially idealized models combined with the disclaimer about the models’ digital modification.
