Crossing Borders in Southern Africa

Migrating, in terms of moving and changing one’s place of residence more or less permanently, has always been happening. Crossing borders, however, has a more recent history. In regions with a colonial past, such as Southern Africa, which, in addition, was the place of an authoritarian state and migration regime called apartheid, migration has become something way more complex; among many things, it was utmost political and often rebellious.
