As a result of this work’s extension into issues of social psychology, we noted that humans are looking for a positive self-image, at best a version that can provide certainty and self-esteem. Given the lack of alternatives available, the category of Zimbabweans appears to be the best fit with regard to these requirements for Zimbabwean migrants in South Africa. We pointed out earlier that there exist other options for collective self-descriptions, but which are unfit for the task of providing a positive self-image for various reasons.
