Conclusion

Oilscapes can be understood as a landscape synopsis of the extraction, transportation, processing, and consumption of hydrocarbons, updating aesthetic, ecological, and moral patterns of categorization, interpretation, and evaluation. Oilscapes can be found on all three levels of World, where they form a thematic subset of landscape. They can thus be understood as one of the numerous ‘-scapes’, each forming a particular thematic synthesis of ‘something’ in spatial arrangement, such as cityscapes, foodscapes, or technoscapes.
