Transitionsmanagement: Lizenzierung im Wandel. Ein Ansatz zum Umgang mit Wandlungsprozessen in der Musikindustrie anhand potenzieller Transformationen des Datenmanagements
摘要
A look at the past shows that technologies were often brought into the music industry from outside and radically changed the way of doing business. An implementation of disruptive change has not succeeded often (cf. Mulligan 2015, p. 60). The transformation of current working processes and structures is imminent: the lack of licensing frameworks for new usage-models, and discussions on the industry-wide data-standards and –organisation cannot keep up with the rapid development of technological innovations. But how can the digital transformation be shaped? In the 1990s, the transition theory was developed in the Netherlands as a concept for addressing social and climate change. Since then, the approach has been applied in various sectors (cf. Loorbach et al. 2017, p. 4 f.). The following article will analyse whether transition management (TM) can be used as a model to support the digital transformation of the music industry as well as taking a deeper look at the possibilities of the approach in addressing change processes and crisis in general. In the end, the question “Can TM help to introduce disruptive technologies and working processes/structures into the music industry?” should be answered. The ongoing debate on the transformation of data management and music licensing is used as a use case. An architecture will be developed to make the construct applicable in practice.
