Nationalist Landscaping

摘要

The preparation of the National Socialist landscape design as a tool for the ‘Germanization’ of conquered eastern territories is described in the article. This led to a scientification, which was an essential prerequisite for the emergence of modern landscape planning as a state planning discipline after the Second World War. Landscape architecture and open space planning opposed this development, each from its own perspective. The latter ‘saved’ the idea of a careful planning approach to individual everyday living conditions in concrete spaces, which is still relevant in view of the adaptation to climate change and the increasing loss of species.
