Cartographic Media as Mediators in Landscape Conflicts
摘要
Since the establishment of planning cartography, cartography has been regarded as a scientific discipline that plays a mediating role in planning projects. Cartographic media not only serve to record a planning project, but also as a communication tool to mediate between different stakeholders in conflicts and to work out compromises. The design possibilities of 2D planning cartography were limited and the reading of corresponding maps was often primarily addressed to experts. Current technologies and methods however enable the design of new cartographic media that can be used more flexibly and processed more intuitively. This facilitates the communication and exchange between different stakeholders. This paper uses self-conducted case studies to demonstrate how cartographic media can be used to mediate landscape conflicts. These media are based on augmented and virtual reality.
