“Women and Flags in the Center”—Ultra-Specific Artifacts and Their Significance for the Construction of Gender

The article proposes a practice-theoretical approach to youth-scene artefacts. With this theoretical lens, it is possible to reconstruct the connections between practices, artefacts and gender constructions. Based on ethnographic data, this article shows how two young women in an ultra group otherwise consisting of male members construct their gender and thus embody their doing ultra at the same time. This makes it clear that a knowledge of practice linked to artefacts enables bodies to connect two Complexes of Praxis with each other. Gender practice can be ultra practice and vice versa. Accordingly, artefacts carry different bodies of knowledge.
