Plastic Composites in Construction
摘要
The first chapter begins with a classification of fibre composites and then focuses on Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC). Key properties of WPC are then explained in more detail and the applications already in use today are discussed. Special products are also highlighted, which can be seen as trend-setting for the future potential of WPC. The current status of research into WPC will then be explored, demonstrating that most projects are currently still at an early stage. Finally, the focus will be placed on WPC in building applications and its potential as a structural material will be critically assessed. Issues, such as product regulation and end-of-life recycling, are addressed and façades, as a key component in the building envelope, are given specific attention. After presenting selected manufacturer data for WPC cladding, a utility analysis will critically compare this product group with conventional plastic-based systems. Chapter 1 concludes with in-depth review questions.
