“Digital” and “Analog” Transmission of Meaning

Since in utopia a certain ambivalence is not only given by the fiction, but furthermore also the presented utopian material, the utopian data, are not transmitted by unambiguous signs, but largely by fuzzy, ambiguous, but nevertheless effective formulas, the question arises as to the functional value of these data. The lack of unambiguity of the data carriers suggests that the utopian Enlightenment is not much concerned with the transmission of subject matter, i.e. material knowledge, but with the practice of a form of thought. For this function, however, the material is not particularly suitable because of its ‘fuzziness’. – On the other hand, it is obvious that utopia wants to teach something.
