Utopia and Literary Fiction

  • Hans-Georg Soeffner

摘要

In the historical recourse to the origin of utopian ideas from myth I have tried to show one of the occasions for the transformation of literary narrative techniques into utopian fiction. This explanation could at best suffice for the Greek travel and state novels, but Morus, Campanella, Bacon and their successors show in the mixture of the Socratic-Platonic dialogue technique with narrative techniques of the novel that a conscious choice was made among existing alternatives of representation. The result of this selection is the mixed form of utopian fiction that believes it cannot do without the narrative form of the novel.
